Let $G$ be a group and $S$ some subset of $G$. A group word in $S$ is an expression of the form \(s_1^{\ell_1}s_2^{\ell_2}\cdots s_n^{\ell_n}\) where $s_i \in S$ and $\ell_i = \pm 1$.
